Hello Maika, it is a real pleasure for us to speak with you and be able to know a little more about your history, about your different facets as an artist, about your participation in the Spanish pre-selection in 2017 among other topics let’s do it:

OGAERLA: Who is Maika for the world of music?

M.B: Well, I would say What is the music for Maika?, because I do not think I’m anyone relevant to the world of music. Music for me is life. Through my interpretations and sometimes as a songwriter, I try to express my vision of many aspects, always from a subjective point of view.

OGAERLA: What emotions define you as a musician and a person?

M.B: Mainly I think it’s my simplicity. I can not stand hypocrisy or falsehoods and at this point in my life I’m at a point where I’m not here to dance the water to anyone, which I have never done before, now with more age, you can imagine! Although the sincerity or the speaking transparent has consequences at all the levels.

OGAERLA: You made yourself known thanks to your participation in La Voz and later in Levántate All Stars (Stand Up All Stars); What did these experiences mean to you?

M.B: I have always talked about them as good experiences and that they have given me positive things.

OGAERLA: After your time at “La Voz” (The Voice), your name began to sound for representing Spain in Eurovision, has it always been your dream?

M.B: The truth is yes, but it is something that keeps getting farther and farther away now.

OGAERLA: What do you think of the people who say (still) that Eurovision does not fit genres such as rock or metal?

M.B: Well, I believe most of the people is still thinking of it, unfortunately. They are still thinking about Eurovision as the fief of a few major genres or radio-formula.

OGAERLA: We believe that 2016 was a very special year for you, with “The reason” in the preselection of Switzerland you reached the semifinal, then you were in the Baltic Song Contest with “Under your own rules” achieving a magnificent second place. How did these opportunities came to your life?

M.B: The Swiss preselection came as a chance. I saw that videos could be uploaded to a Swiss television website and I decided to upload “The Reason”. The Baltic Song Contest came through a person whom I love, José Juan Santana (president of Ogae Spain). This festival has been one of the best musical experiences of my life and it was a great satisfaction that a song of its own like “Under Your Own Rules” will be appreciated by those lands.

OGAERLA: In 2017 came the opportunity to fight for your dream of representing Spain in Eurovision from the hand of “Momento Crítico” in “Objetivo Eurovision”, how was this project presented and what did the experience leave you?

M.B: Rafael Artesero and José Juan Santana contacted me to create a song to present it to the Spanish pre-selection of 2017. I felt very comfortable with the theme, especially because the lyrics are a personal story and the melody was very strong. The experience after leaving the stage I prefer not to remember it.

OGAERLA: What makes you feel “Momento Crítico” when you sing it and how did you bring this song to light?

M.B: As I said in the previous question, it is a claim song, to say “ENOUGH!”.

OGAERLA: After this new Eurovision trip, we began to see you on your YouTube channel speaking on various topics focused on Eurovision, how is the idea born and what have you learned from it? .

M.B: Several friends and subscribers gave me the idea of talking about Eurovision on the channel and I did so. I have always liked to speak in public and I decided to try. You always learn new things. It is best to see comments from people around the world and also those who get bored and come to download (energy) in the channel: D

OGAERLA: Last year we could not ignore the great admiration and respect you showed to Eugen Bushpepa, Michael Schulte, Ermal Meta, Fabrizio Moro among others, (besides, we are glad to know that you were able to meet the representative of Albania and Germany in the Preparty of Spain organized by Eurovision-Spain). How was it to share with the different Eurovision participants and especially with Eugent who you gave a video made by you where many eurofans expressed their support?

M.B: I had a great time at the Preparty in Madrid. It was amazing the proximity of Eugent and the components of The Humans, especially Cristina. Eugent and I talked about musical affinities and various experiences in the world of music. It was great.

OGAERLA: This year, RTVE again uses the OT platform to choose its representative in Tel Aviv. What is “extra” and what is missing in this pre-selection?

M.B: I would have liked to see more musical styles among the selected songs.

OGAERLA: Do you still dream of stepping on the Eurovision stage? Would you intend to try again for Spain or another country?

M.B: They say that you have to fight for dreams and that hope is the last thing that is lost, but Sigmund Freud also said that dreams are a trap of the subconscious, so we could say that they are overrated, XD. So…

OGAERLA: Eurovision is a festival that awakens many passions in Latin America, did you know this? Have you been to some of our countries?

M.B: Yes! I have enough subscribers from Central and Latin America. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to visit any country in Central / Latin America.

OGAERLA: What’s next in Maika’s musical career?

M.B: Well, only time can say that …

OGAERLA: Finally, what message do you want to give to the people who are reading this interview and who follow you or begin to know you?

M.B: Just send them a big hug and a hug and I hope to one day visit them. Oh, and be encouraged to follow me on YouTube
